01 · Origin

I was born in Guwahati, where systems are older than software.

Tea estates. Rivers. Monsoons. Family. Language. Memory. The first systems I knew were not written in code — they were written in soil and ceremony, and they had been running for centuries.

At Arizona State, I turned that instinct for systems into software. Then, in 2024, I went the other direction: I founded a company that would put Assam back into the glass, in a form the rest of the world could hold.

Home, I have come to think, is rarely a place. It is more often a question someone asks you once, and the way you answered it.

02 · The brand

A ready-to-drink iced tea, but properly.

Assam Ice Tea by Dewri's is a food and beverage manufacturing company, founded in 2024. It positions Assamese tea heritage at the centre of the ready-to-drink category — the way Champagne sits at the centre of sparkling wine. Not a flavoring. Not a backstory. The actual product.

The wordmark, সোণালী, means golden — a reference to the colour of a properly steeped Assam liquor at noon, and to the Assamese word for the legacy itself.

03 · The discipline

Engineering taste is engineering.

The same instinct that makes a matching engine honest at p99 is the instinct that makes a beverage honest in the bottle: refuse the easy version, refuse the cheap input, refuse the lie. A drink that says “Assam” on the front should be honest about what is in it. A latency number that says “87µs” in a slide should be honest about what it measured.

The founder work is not separate from the engineering work. It is the same person, translating taste into systems and back again.

A navy blazer, a chino, a penny loafer — the items I keep buying because they keep meaning the same thing.
